In this post I will go over each military symbol in the current version of ADP 1-02 which was last published on August 2018. This will be a general overview and will suit the needs of 99% of those who need to reference them.

Activity, Installation, and Equipment Symbols are used to identify friendly, enemy, or criminal actions; sites that incorporate permanent, semipermanent, and temporary structures; and nonexpendable items needed to outfit or equip an individual or organization.

A Graphic Control Measure symbol is a graphic used on maps and displays to regulate forces and warfighting functions. In this post we will go over three main categories: points, lines and areas.

Tactical Mission Tasks are tasks that are clearly defined and measurable activities accomplished by individuals or organizations. These activities are performed by a unit while executing a form of tactical operation or form of maneuver.
